"All the world's a stage": Every evening, theatre-goers can have this experience in one of the numerous theatres in Bavaria.

Theatre-goers can choose between performances of four Bavarian state theatres, 20 municipal theatres with their own ensembles as well as numerous privately-owned theatres and independent theatre companies. A great number of indoor and outdoor festivals along with various activities of amateur theatre groups complete the offer. The diverse and colourful character of the Bavarian theatre landscape is shown at the Bavarian Theatre Festival, which takes place at a different location in Bavaria each year.

The Free State of Bavaria is very committed to supporting its theatres: The 2013/2014 budget allocates more than 190 million euros to running state theatres and funding non-state theatres. The Bavarian Government awards young and exceptionally gifted artists the “Bayerischer Kunstfoerderpreis” for their outstanding artistic achievements every year – for example in the category “performing arts”.
